License agreement
The agreement that applies when you install or use Nevisel. The same text comes with the app (About Nevisel → License agreement) and with every release. Plain-text version.
NEVISEL END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT
Version 1.0 DRAFT, October 2026

This agreement is between you and Causalytics, 27221 Red Willow Ct,
Valencia, California 91381, United States ("Causalytics", "we"). It covers
the Nevisel software, its updates, and its documentation ("Nevisel").
By installing or using Nevisel, or by entering a license key, you agree to
this agreement. If you use Nevisel for an organization, you agree on its
behalf and confirm you may do so. If you do not agree, do not use Nevisel.
1. TRIAL
You may use Nevisel free of charge for 15 days from the first time you run
it on a computer, to decide whether to buy a license. When the trial ends,
text expansion and shared-library sync pause until a license key is
entered. You can still open, edit and export your snippets and notes.
2. YOUR LICENSE
When you buy a license, we give you a personal, non-exclusive,
non-transferable right to install and use Nevisel for the license term,
under this agreement.
- One license is for one named person ("user"). That person may install
Nevisel on the computers they personally use. A license may not be shared
by several people.
- The license term is 12 months from the issue date in the license key,
followed by a 45-day grace period in which Nevisel keeps working so you
can renew. After that, expansion and shared-library sync pause until you
enter a new key; your snippets and notes stay available to you.
- You may use every release of Nevisel made available during your license
term.
An organization that buys several licenses may assign each to a named
user, and may reassign a license when a user leaves or no longer needs it.
Licenses are sold through our online reseller, Paddle.com. Paddle is the
Merchant of Record for all orders: it takes payment, charges any sales tax
or VAT, issues receipts and invoices, and handles refunds. Paddle's buyer
terms apply to the purchase itself; this agreement applies to Nevisel.
After a purchase, Causalytics sends your license key by email.
You may ask for a refund within 14 days of purchase, for any reason, as
the refund policy on the Nevisel website describes. When a purchase is
refunded, the licenses it bought end, and you must stop using their
license keys.
3. WHAT YOU MAY NOT DO
You may not, and may not let others:
- share, publish or sell license keys, or use one key for more users than
it covers;
- remove, bypass or disable the trial or license checks;
- copy, sell, rent, lend, sublicense or distribute Nevisel, except to
install it as this agreement allows;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble Nevisel, except where the law
allows it despite this restriction, or where a license for an open-source
part of Nevisel allows it (see section 9);
- use Nevisel in breach of any law, or to infringe anyone's rights.
4. YOUR CONTENT AND YOUR PRIVACY
Your snippets, notes, dictionary and settings ("your content") belong to
you. Nevisel stores them on your computer. Nevisel does not send your
content, what you type, or usage data to Causalytics, and Causalytics has
no access to them. License keys are checked on your computer.
You are responsible for your content and for keeping backups of it.
Nevisel offers export functions for this. If you lock your notes with a
secret phrase, Causalytics cannot recover them if you lose both the phrase
and the recovery key.
Our privacy notice, at the Nevisel website, explains what the app and the
website do with information. It forms part of this agreement.
5. SENSITIVE INFORMATION
Nevisel is a writing tool. It is not a system of record, a medical device or
an electronic health record, and it does not give legal, medical, financial
or other professional advice.
Nevisel refuses to save some kinds of identifiers it can recognize, such as
Social Security numbers, labeled dates of birth and medical record numbers.
This is a safety aid only: it cannot recognize names or every kind of
identifier, and it does not make your use of Nevisel compliant with any
privacy or data-protection law, such as HIPAA or the GDPR.
You are responsible for following the laws, contracts and policies that
apply to you and your organization, including whether and how you may store
personal, health, financial or other confidential information about other
people in Nevisel.
6. SHARED LIBRARIES AND AI ASSISTANTS
If your organization connects Nevisel to its own shared-library server,
that server and the content on it are your organization's responsibility,
under its own policies.
If you connect an AI assistant to Nevisel, the assistant receives the
snippets Nevisel makes available to it. What the assistant and its provider
do with them is governed by your agreement with that provider, not by
Causalytics.
7. UPDATES AND SUPPORT
We may release updates that fix problems, change features, or stop
supporting older operating systems. We are not obliged to release updates
or provide support, unless we agree otherwise in writing.
8. OWNERSHIP
Nevisel is licensed, not sold. Causalytics and its licensors own Nevisel
and all rights in it. This agreement does not give you any rights to our
names, logos or trademarks.
If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without obligation
to you.
9. OPEN-SOURCE COMPONENTS
Nevisel includes open-source software. Each open-source component is
licensed to you under its own license, listed in the open-source notices
that come with Nevisel (Help > Open-Source Notices, or Settings > About).
Where an open-source license gives you rights that this agreement would
otherwise restrict, that license prevails for that component.
10. ENDING THIS AGREEMENT
This agreement lasts while you use Nevisel. You may end it at any time by
uninstalling Nevisel. We may end your license if you seriously breach this
agreement and do not fix the breach within 30 days of notice.
When the agreement or a license ends, you must stop using the paid
features it covered. Sections 4, 5, 8, 9, 11, 12 and 14 continue to apply.
11. NO WARRANTY
Nevisel is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law
allows, Causalytics disclaims all warranties, express or implied,
including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose,
accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not promise that Nevisel will be free
of errors, that expansions will always be correct, or that it will work
with every application.
Check text before you send or sign it. You are responsible for what you
type, send and store.
12. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
To the extent the law allows:
- Causalytics is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special,
consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or
goodwill, even if we were told they were possible.
- Causalytics' total liability arising from Nevisel or this agreement is
limited to the amount you paid for Nevisel in the 12 months before the
event that gave rise to the claim, or US $50 if you paid nothing.
Nothing in this agreement limits liability that cannot be limited by law,
or rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.
13. EXPORT
You may not use, export or re-export Nevisel in breach of United States
export control or sanctions laws, or other laws that apply to you.
14. GENERAL
- This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of California,
United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The state
and federal courts in Los Angeles County, California, have exclusive
jurisdiction over disputes, unless the law where you live gives you the
right to bring a claim there.
- If any part of this agreement is unenforceable, the rest stays in
effect.
- You may not transfer this agreement without our written consent. We may
transfer it as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of Nevisel.
- We may update this agreement for future releases or license terms. The
version you accepted continues to apply to your current license term.
- This agreement, with the privacy notice and any order or invoice for
your licenses, is the entire agreement between you and Causalytics about
Nevisel. If you and Causalytics sign a separate written agreement for
Nevisel, it prevails where the two conflict.
